Reading Danto, Goodman and theory thinking of expressionism looking for a home I am, I am, but so many boxes are out there to pick from, so many isms, should I just forget about picking one?
Is Danto’s “End of Art” is just another cry that the world of art is coming to an end! The cry of “The world is coming to an end” is a call to surrender; neither art nor mankind will ever do this.
I have seen so many such cries in my many years on this earth, painting is dead 1907, well I was not around then but this cry has been going on for 104 years, the world is still here as is Art!
Yet with all these predictions we all still paint, with expression, with metaphors, with a knowledge of history our own personal history’s, with images filled with icons, metaphors, passion, humor, conviction.
Is modernism dead? How can that be we are modern, we live, we interrupt the world we live in.
Each generation sees the world as new; no one has ever experience it before in there minds, it is wonderful to see new eyes on this old world.
I in the mean time am in the middle of the Rubicon seeing Plato on one side and Aristotle on the other, which way do I go? Where is my ism.
What fun.
