Jameson

I found this one interesting, not so much the reading but the discussion in class. I found it so interesting I was actually taking notes as we were discussing. What caught my attention was when we started talking about how the finance capital is abstract. Jameson talks about the connection between abstract money and political movement, and how it all ties to modern abstraction. One of the examples talked in class was that of the stock market. It is a complete abstraction because the "money" is not there...it is nonexistant. This is the 3rd stage of capitalism. We also talked about Deteritorialization, which from my notes I think it means how there's a market that has no place, where you can buy anything from anywhere...which goes to globalization. We never touch money anymore. The question we were left with is to whether we think we are at the end of the 3rd stage of capitalism? will we go back to real money? Will we start producing again?.....
