Kristin's Jameson post
So, is there such thing as postmodernity and if so is it a necessity to get to the next step in art? What is the next step? Seems as though the idea may be that we have already explored all avenues. We have gone from everything to complete minimalism to the now "Contemporary" but how did we change from or move from Postmodernism to what we are now told is Contemporary? I would still like a good definition of Postmodernism? Anyone....? If we can't even define it that well, how do we know it is over? Just asking. We are discussing it in another class I am taking and it's defining parameters still elude me. Anyway, if we have, in fact, used all of the possible ideas and combinations that there are...what is left for artists today? If this is the case then we should just all stop making art now, right? So I digress once again, if postmodernity is a necessary because it is the shift and is chronologically necessary to show a break in art from one focus to another....what is the new focus and if we don't know, then how do we know it is over? Just sayin.
