Janet's Reading Response #4 on Jameson

Janet’s Reading Response #4 Jameson, “The Cultural Turn selected writings on the Postmodern”

I think Jameson is comparing the similarities of the new global finance capitalization and Modernist abstraction. Both art and finance capitalism is now abstract. Both the money and the art movements are fragmented because of technology and the fast pace of our world. Art is now seen as fragmented images that move so fast in this global society, that people cannot keep pace with either the art or the finance capital. Both are independent of the formal real world and are autonomous. How does this relate to my art? I think that I too am not just looking at the real world in a traditional sense, but that I am looking at fragments or abstract parts of it. Even though I have selected the landscape as my subject matter, I am working, exploring , constantly changing, metamorphosing from my past methodology. In that way our art and our world are similar in that they are constantly changing. I hope that the saturated markets of the world does not include the art world as well. I feel like we are lost in both our direction in art and in the capital financial markets that are not longer tied to anything concrete. Have we outpaced ourselves?
