Reading #3 “Janet’s Reading Response for Modernity Verses Postmodernity”

Reading #3 “Janet’s Reading Response for Modernity Verses Postmodernity

I’m not sure what I read, but here goes anyway. I think he is talking about culture that is different for the experts, than for the public. He goes on to say that there are three separate spheres, science, morality, and art and they are interpreted differently by each group. That only an expert in the respective field can then know how to handle them as questions of knowledge, or of morality or taste. Basically they could handle the questions about the specific area in a more knowledgeable way. Why do we need them to tell us what to think? I’m lost help!

Janet’s Reading Response –Marxism and Postmodernism/the Cultural Turn

My head hurts. I will try my best to share my thoughts on this reading. I believe he is talking about this newer kind of global production and class order. He states that these formulas or models cannot be given because they are not yet finished working things through. Furthermore he states that we are in a transitional phase between two stages of capitalism, between the economics of the past, and this new global economy still being worked through. I think they are all just speculating and should just wait for it to happen first. I think modern art that does not have a historical basis in tradition is hard for them; they want to give it a name, to classify it. Why can’t they just let it be!
