hey everyone! So I have never done a blog before so I don't know how to start it off and because I've never done one I forget so I apologize :) Anyways, I have kept my schedule as best as I can. I have revisited some of my paintings from the summer and there is one in particular that I think is turning out succesfully. I have been having "problems" with color. Let me explain, becuase it sounds a little disturbing since I paint. I have always been attracted to bright colors and really high contrast. Never really paying attention to how things sit in one lighting, for example how things look in the afternoon in comparison to 5am. Its really kind of hard to explain...but anyways, I have been doing some reasearch. I have been looking at painters of light such as the impressionists, landscapes and how light falls and changes colors of its surroundings. I have also been looking at Jenny Seville...mostly because of her flesh tones and since I have a lot of figures (human figures) in my stuff, I thought it would be good to look her up.
I have also been doing some research about my subject matter. I have been reading "Mojado: the Wetback Story". LOL. Its actually very interesting. Even thought I know many stories of immigrants (as well as my own) I love to read about other experiences and other hardships (way worse) that those immigrants had to face. The book focuses mainly on Mexicans, but it applies to every immigrant that crosses the border through Mexico. I haven't quite figured out wheter the book is for or against the immigration...I think its just giving information about immigrants...haven't really finished it, so I don't know. I have also been looking at this Brazilian photographer...his name escapes me and I don't have it written down anywhere...hold on, let me look it up in the internet.........Sebatiao Salgado's photographs. yes, the are about immigrants from all over the world, not just hispanics. I have also been looking at "Caras Vemos Corazones No sabemos". That was an exhibition, and it deals with similar things. What I love about it is that it deals with "dichos" which are "sayings". I don't know of many in english but we basically live off of our "dichos". Well, I wrote more that I intended, but thats ok. I'm making up for the times I haven't. :D
